So, What Am I Even Talking About?

This blog is focused on two members of the Microsoft Dynamics 365 family:

🏢 Dynamics 365 Finance & Operations

Built for larger, more complex organizations. Think multi-entity, multi-currency, robust project accounting, and deep financial controls. If your company has a lot of moving parts, this is likely your world.

🚀 Dynamics 365 Business Central

A powerhouse for small to mid-sized businesses. More nimble, faster to implement, and still packed with the financial functionality you need to run a real operation — without the enterprise-level complexity.

Different platforms, different audiences — but a lot of the same questions. How does this post? Where did that transaction go? Why is my report not matching? What does this error even mean?

I’m going to do my best (over time) to cover all of it.

Why I’m Doing This?

In my current role, I work alongside clients during implementation and stay with them through the nerve-wracking transition to Go-Live and beyond. And what I see, over and over again, is that the technical side of D365 often gets way more airtime than the practical side — the “but how do I actually do my job in this thing?” side.

There are plenty of resources out there written by developers for developers. That is not this blog.

This is for the AR manager who just went live last month and is still not sure why her aging report looks different than it did in the old system. This is for the AP clerk learning a three-way match for the first time. This is for the Controller who needs to close the books in a brand new platform and is quietly terrified.

My goal is simple: take the completely bewildered and move them toward decently confident. Not overnight — but one manageable, clearly explained concept at a time.

What to Expect Here

I’m not going to drown you in jargon or make you feel like you need a computer science degree to follow along. Here’s my promise to you:

  • Plain language first. If I use a technical term, I’ll explain it like you’re hearing it for the first time — because maybe you are.
  • Real-world context. I’ll connect system concepts back to the accounting and finance work you already understand. Because you already know more than you think.
  • Bite-sized and useful. No 47-step guides that lose you by step 3. Manageable content you can actually apply.
  • Both platforms covered. Whether you’re in F&O or BC, there will be something here for you.
  • Zero judgment. The only bad question is the one you were too embarrassed to ask. Ask it here.

We’ll cover everything from navigating the interface for the first time, to understanding how modules connect, to troubleshooting the head-scratching moments that come up in daily work. Tips, walkthroughs, common pitfalls, and the “oh, THAT’S why it does that” moments I genuinely live for.
