Honest, practical help for navigating Dynamics 365 — without the headache

D365 Finance · Find It Once, Save It Forever

Set it Once · A back-to-basics series · D365 Finance & Operations

Build an advanced filter with real operators, save it with a name, and stop reconstructing the same search every time you need it.

Filtering in F&O is more capable than most people ever use. Beyond typing a value into a column header, there is a full filter builder with operators like between, greater than, and does not contain, and once you build a filter that matters, you can save it and never rebuild it again.

The idea in one minute: Build once, reuse forever

A saved filter is not the same as a personalized view, though the two work well together. A saved filter can be applied to any grid on demand, layered with others, and shared with a specific set of criteria your view might not otherwise carry. Think of it as a named search you can call up any time.

Build and Save an Advanced Filter

    • You can add advanced filtering on any grid, for this example I want to create an advanced filter that shows all Customers that:
      • Account Status of “Open” (Filter= Is “Open”)
      • Customer Groups 10 and 30 (Filter= Is One Of 10; 30)
    • When you build yours, you can add additional criteria joined with And or Or as needed, then apply the filter.
      • It’s helpful when building these to be as specific as possible so that when you go back to this page once you favorite it, you won’t have to do any additional filtering
    • Click Save filter and give it a name you will recognize later.

Saved filters show up in a dropdown at the top of the grid, right alongside your personalized views, so switching between last month’s closed transactions and this month’s open ones is a couple of clicks instead of a rebuild.
